The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, held a meeting with the Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, during the ongoing Conference on Ukraine’s Reconstruction in Rome. The main topic of discussion was the continuation of Poland’s role as the primary logistics and transit hub for international aid to Ukraine.
Support from Poland and Europe
According to Zelensky, he thanked Tusk for participating in the conference and for Poland’s joining the European flagship fund for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
“It is important for Poland to continue being a key logistics and transit hub for international aid to Ukraine.”
During the meeting, the parties discussed the situation at the front and Ukraine’s defense needs. Special emphasis was placed on the development of defense production and joint cooperation within the SAFE program and other initiatives that involve the procurement and production of weapons in partnership with Poland.
Response from the Polish Side and Duda’s Warnings
Donald Tusk did not provide additional comments on the negotiations. However, on the social media platform X, he noted that the conference in Rome demonstrated “exceptional unity among Europe, the USA, Canada, and Ukraine,” which, according to him, does not bring joy to Moscow.
Meanwhile, Andrzej Duda, who is completing his term as President of Poland, expressed dissatisfaction with the attitude of partners towards Poland regarding military assistance. In an interview with Polish media, he stated that allies and Ukraine “believe they have the right to the Rzeszów airport and our highways.” Duda emphasized that these facilities belong to Poland, and if partners are unhappy with this, Poland can close access to them.
The airport near the city of Rzeszów remains the main transit hub for foreign military aid being delivered to Ukraine. The functioning of this airport is crucial for the logistical routes of a significant portion of Western support.
