Why the Petition for Access to Toilets in the Metro Was Rejected

The Kyiv City State Administration did not support the petition that proposed opening toilets in the subway for passengers. The head of the KCSA, Vitali Klitschko, explained that the technical features of the stations do not allow for the establishment of public restrooms. The existing toilets at the stations are intended solely for the metro staff.

“The state building codes that were in effect at the time of the design and commissioning of the existing metro facilities did not provide for the establishment of public restrooms. The toilets available at the stations belong to service premises and are intended for the employees of the Communal Enterprise ‘Kyiv Metro’,” Klitschko’s response stated.

Plans for New Stations and Renovations

Despite this, the KCSA announced the introduction of inclusive sanitary facilities at the upcoming stations ‘Mostytska’ and ‘Varshavska’, which will be built as part of the extension of the Syrets-Pechersk line from the ‘Syrets’ station to Vynogradar. Additionally, the installation of sanitary facilities is planned during comprehensive capital repairs of existing stations, if their structure allows.

Furthermore, during air raid alerts, when metro stations are used as shelters, the toilets are available to all passengers free of charge.
