Near the Great Lavra Bell Tower at Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, 600 meters of fabric have been unfurled, which will become the largest patchwork quilt in the world. The project is called “Sunflower Quilt For Ukraine – Patchwork of Victory.”

International Support and Charitable Purpose

Craftsmen from over 25 countries are participating in the creation of the quilt. The piece is not only a symbol of solidarity with Ukraine but also aims to raise funds for reconstructive surgeries for defenders who have been injured at the front. The organizers note that this art object is intended to draw attention to the heroism of Ukrainian soldiers while also serving as a tool for assistance.

“The fabric being sewn by masters from over 25 countries has become a symbol of international support for Ukrainian soldiers and at the same time a tool for raising funds for reconstructive surgeries for defenders who have suffered severe injuries at the front,” the statement reads.

Project History and Future Plans

The project started in the early days of the full-scale war, initiated by Australian artist Jeanette McLaughlin. By the summer of 2026, the organizers plan to extend the total length of the quilt to 1100 meters. If the plan is successfully realized, the achievement will be recorded in the Book of Records of Ukraine and a record application will be submitted to the Guinness World Records.

The event involved charitable foundations “Doctors for Heroes” and “YANKO,” the Ukrainian Quilter’s Association, the Pechersk District State Administration, and other partners.

Subsequently, parts of the fabric are planned to be showcased at international exhibitions. After the project is completed, the quilt will be donated to military hospitals as a sign of support and gratitude to Ukrainian defenders.
