Excursion Rides in Podil
“The famous retro tram in the capital has returned to historic Podil and is ready for excursion rides on the route: ‘Kontraktova Square – Taras Shevchenko Square’ and back,” the announcement states.
Before returning to the route, the tram underwent restoration work at the Darnytsia depot. Specialists restored its running gear, repaired the tram bogie, and updated the interior finishes so that passengers could connect with the history of Kyiv’s transport.
Reviving the History of Kyiv Trams
The excursion route of the retro tram was created in honor of the first electric tram line, which opened in Kyiv back in 1892. At that time, the tram connected Podil with Oleksandrivsk Descent (now known as Volodymyr Descent), and its length was about 1.5 kilometers. The restored service of the retro tram allows residents and visitors of the capital to experience the atmosphere of the old city and learn about the history of urban transport.
