The metro station ‘Maidan Nezalezhnosti’ in the center of Kyiv will be temporarily unavailable to passengers on August 24.

This is reported by Kyiv24

On Sunday, August 24, entry and exit to the ‘Maidan Nezalezhnosti’ metro station will be restricted for all passengers. The restrictions will take effect from 5:38 AM and will last until 11:00 AM.

Reasons for the Closure of the Metro Station

The temporary changes in the operation of the central metro station are related to the mass events of national significance dedicated to the 34th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence. The event organizers emphasize the need to ensure the safety of participants and guests of the celebration, which is why this precautionary measure was chosen.

Operation of the Transfer Hub and Actions During Air Alerts

Despite the closure of the ‘Maidan Nezalezhnosti’ station itself, the transfer hub with the neighboring ‘Khreshchatyk’ station will continue to operate as usual. Passengers will be able to transfer without restrictions.

“The restrictions will last from 5:38 AM to 11:00 AM. At the same time, the transfer hub ‘Maidan Nezalezhnosti’ – ‘Khreshchatyk’ will operate as usual. In case of an air alert, the ‘Maidan Nezalezhnosti’ station will function as a shelter,” the message states.

In case of danger during an air alert, the ‘Maidan Nezalezhnosti’ station will be available as a shelter for residents. The administration of the Kyiv metro urges passengers to plan their routes in advance and take into account the temporary changes in transport operations due to the festive events.
