Peace Council Meeting in Washington
On February 19, the first meeting of the Peace Council, established at the initiative of U.S. President Donald Trump, took place in Washington. Delegations from over 20 countries participated in this meeting. During the session, it was announced that the participating countries would allocate $7 billion for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, while the U.S. committed to providing $10 billion to fund projects of the Peace Council.
“The Peace Council was initially conceived as a body to manage the Gaza Strip post-war in accordance with Trump’s peace plan, but it has since become clear that the U.S. president envisions it as a new international organization with significantly broader powers.”
It is expected that during his visit to Israel, the U.S. Secretary of State will discuss with partners the next steps for implementing the peace plan and the involvement of the international community in stabilizing the situation in the Middle East.
