Modern Technologies for the Safety of Historical Heritage

The installation of specialized equipment has been initiated by representatives of UNESCO in Ukraine. According to experts, these seismometers will enable timely information to be obtained about external influences on the unique architectural structure of the 11th century. This will allow for a quick assessment of potential risks to the building, as well as the development of effective response scenarios for emergencies.

“Thanks to this equipment, the specialists of St. Sophia Kyiv will be able to receive operational information about external influences on the 11th-century building, assess potential threats, and develop risk scenarios to ensure readiness for emergencies,” the statement reads.

Preservation of Cultural Heritage According to International Standards

The new devices will not only allow for monitoring the condition of the cathedral but also document all changes to provide objective information to specialized international organizations, including UNESCO, ICOMOS, and ICCROM. This will contribute to the preservation of St. Sophia Cathedral as a site of world significance amidst the growing threats to cultural objects in Ukraine.
