Key Points of the G7 Joint Statement

The G7 leaders’ statement recognizes Israel as having the “right to self-defense.” Iran, in turn, is labeled as the “main source of regional instability and terror.”

“We consistently state that Iran must never have nuclear weapons. We call for the resolution of the Iranian crisis to lead to broader de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza,” stated the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Canada.

The G7 also emphasized its readiness to closely monitor the impact of events on international energy markets. The participating countries highlighted that they would coordinate their actions to ensure the stability of the energy market alongside like-minded partners.

Escalation of the Conflict Between Israel and Iran

The statement came amid escalating conflict following Israel’s airstrikes on Iranian nuclear, military, and energy facilities on June 13. In response, Iran launched strikes on Israeli territory using missiles and drones.

According to the Israeli side, the attacks were aimed at preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons. During the initial surprise strike, high-ranking commanders and scientists were killed. Iran’s Ministry of Health reported 224 fatalities, most of whom were civilians. The ministry’s spokesperson, Hossein Kermanpur, specified that over 90% of the victims were from the civilian population.

In turn, according to Israel, 23 people were killed as a result of the Iranian attacks.
