Khamenei’s Statement and U.S. Response
“Wise people who understand Iran, the Iranian nation, and its history will never speak to this nation in a threatening manner, because the Iranian nation will not surrender, and Americans must know that any U.S. military intervention will undoubtedly be accompanied by irreparable damage,” he said in his address.
His comments came amid escalating tensions in the region and discussions about possible U.S. involvement in the standoff between Israel and Iran. These events unfolded after Israel conducted airstrikes on nuclear, military, and energy facilities within Iran on June 13. In response, Tehran carried out missile and drone attacks on Israeli targets.
Washington’s Position and the Situation Surrounding Khamenei
U.S. President Donald Trump stated on June 17 that American intelligence has precise information about Ali Khamenei’s whereabouts and noted that he is an “easy target.” However, Trump emphasized that eliminating the Supreme Leader of Iran is not currently planned, adding: “at least not for now.” He also stressed that Washington’s patience regarding Iranian missile attacks on civilians and American troops is wearing thin.
In his statements, the U.S. president used the phrase “Silent Capitulation,” without revealing whom he was referring to, and also stated that “we currently have complete control of the skies over Iran.” It remains unclear which military group or country Trump meant by the word “we.”
Ali Khamenei, who has led Iran since 1989 and is a key figure in state decision-making, has made few public statements in recent days following the start of Israeli airstrikes, focusing instead on strategic messages to the Iranian nation.
