The US Considers Establishing a Peace Council for Ukraine Modelled After the Gaza Strip

США розглядають для України створення Ради миру – подібно до Гази

The US is in negotiations to establish a Peace Council for Ukraine, which will oversee the implementation of a future ceasefire agreement. According to Western sources, this structure is planned to be organized similarly to the Peace Council for the Gaza Strip.

Possible Format of the Peace Council for Ukraine

The draft peace plan for Ukraine currently under discussion consists of 20 points and proposes the creation of a Peace Council chaired by US President Donald Trump. This body will include representatives from Ukraine, European countries, NATO, and Russia. The main task of the Council will be to monitor and ensure compliance with the provisions of the peace plan.

Plans to Expand the Activities of the Peace Council

According to sources, the Peace Council established for Gaza may receive a broader mandate and address the resolution of other conflicts. One interlocutor reported that the Trump administration views this Council as a potential alternative to the UN: the body could operate as a parallel unofficial structure to address security issues not only in Gaza. In particular, American officials have already suggested that the Peace Council take on the situation in Venezuela, which has been left without a president following the US operation to extract Nicolás Maduro.

An Arab diplomat, who wished to remain unnamed, told the FT that plans to expand the mandate of the Peace Council regarding Gaza are viewed “with caution” in his region, as he noted, “this is an abnormal procedure.”
