The Korolyov District Court of Zhytomyr has decided to suspend the mayor of Berdychiv, Serhiy Orlyuk, from his position. The reason for this action is an investigation into his receipt of unlawful benefits during the approval of the placement of temporary trading structures within the community.

According to the investigation materials, the official is suspected of facilitating a businessman during discussions at meetings of the working group and the executive committee of the city council. It has been reported that Serhiy Orlyuk personally signed the decisions approving the locations for the installation of bus stop complexes in designated areas, and for granting two corresponding permits, he received a bribe of 2,000 US dollars.

The court supported the prosecutor’s arguments and granted the request for the immediate suspension of the official from his duties as mayor.

On June 23, Serhiy Orlyuk was officially informed of the suspicion of committing a corruption crime and was taken into custody. Information about his detention was received on June 20. According to data released on June 24, a bail of 242,000 hryvnias was posted for the mayor, allowing him to be released from custody during the investigation.
