Personnel Changes in Government
The last week has been marked by a series of significant personnel changes in the leadership of the state. In particular, on January 3, Volodymyr Zelensky announced a “major reset” that will affect the defense sector, the State Bureau of Investigation, and the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Among the key changes is the proposal for President Kyrylo Budanov to head the Office of the President. Oleg Ivashchenko, who previously led the Foreign Intelligence Service, has been appointed to his position in the Main Intelligence Directorate. Serhiy Kyslytsia has become the First Deputy Head of the Office of the President, while the government has dismissed him from the position of First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Zelensky also proposed Mykhailo Fedorov, the Minister of Digital Transformation, to head the Ministry of Defense, and Denys Shmyhal to transition to the position of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy. Additionally, it became known about the resignation of the head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Vasyl Maliuk, who has been asked to focus on combat tasks.
On January 4, the president appointed Valerii Vavryniuk as the interim head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, replacing Serhii Dejneka. The latter has been transferred to the position of advisor to the Minister of Internal Affairs, after which, following a brief rehabilitation, he will be appointed commander of a combat unit of the State Border Guard Service.
