The Next Round of Negotiations Between Ukraine, the USA, and Russia Will Again Take Place in Switzerland

наступні переговори зі США і РФ будуть знову в Швейцарії

The next trilateral meeting of Ukraine, the USA, and Russia regarding the cessation of war will take place in Switzerland. This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky during an interview with Piers Morgan, which was released on February 18.

“I want to emphasize that the next meeting will also be in Switzerland. This is the information I have as of today. Of course, our group will return, and I will have more detailed information than I currently do over the phone,” said the president.

Focus of the Negotiations and Positions of the Parties

Zelensky stressed the importance of conducting peace negotiations specifically in Europe, highlighting that the venue has symbolic significance for the conflict resolution process. The head of state refrained from specifying the date of the upcoming meeting but confirmed that he has already received the relevant information. The president noted that the negotiations in Geneva, which took place on February 17-18, were dedicated to issues of territorial claims and security guarantees—key obstacles to ending Russia’s war against Ukraine.

According to Zelensky, the parties have made some progress in military matters; however, there remain “sensitive points” in political issues. The president remarked that the final details will be known after the Ukrainian delegation returns to Kyiv.

Prospects and Reactions from Participants

After the negotiations concluded, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that it is “too early” to draw conclusions about the results of the meeting. U.S. representatives have so far refrained from commenting. The chief negotiator for the Russian side, Vladimir Medinsky, told Russian state media that the dialogue was “difficult but businesslike,” and meetings will continue.

The chief U.S. representative in Geneva, Steve Witkoff, reported “significant progress” and noted that both sides intend to inform their leaders and continue working towards finding a compromise. At the same time, the details of the discussions remain closed to the public.

The meetings in Geneva have already marked the third round of negotiations between Ukraine, the USA, and Russia in the past month. They took place on the eve of the anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the consequences of which have led to the deaths or injuries of nearly two million people on both sides. Despite U.S. efforts at mediation, Russia continues to insist on its demands, particularly regarding Ukraine’s renunciation of Donbas. The Ukrainian side, in turn, demands robust security guarantees from the USA and European allies to protect against future aggression from Russia.
