U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the leaders of France, the United Kingdom, and Germany expressed a desire to hold talks with representatives from the U.S. and Ukraine this coming weekend in Europe. The American side is awaiting specific responses from European partners before making a decision regarding participation in this meeting.

Discussion on Peace Settlement
According to Trump, during a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, the parties had a rather heated discussion regarding the situation in Ukraine. Trump emphasized that Washington seeks clear answers and does not intend to waste time on unproductive negotiations.
“We discussed Ukraine in quite sharp terms. We will see what happens. We are waiting for answers before moving forward… They want us to go to a meeting in Europe this weekend. And we will make a decision based on what they come back with. We do not want to waste time. Sometimes you have to let people figure things out for themselves, and sometimes you don’t. But the problem is that when you let people figure things out for themselves, thousands of people die every week. It’s absurd,” he said, recounting his conversation with European leaders.
According to the French president’s statement, the conversation among the leaders lasted about 40 minutes. During this discussion, sources reported that Ukraine submitted an updated version of the peace plan to Washington.
Challenges on the Path to Agreements
Recently, the American administration has been making efforts to achieve a peace agreement between Kyiv and Moscow. As a result of prolonged consultations, a document was prepared that is more acceptable to Ukraine; however, there remain discrepancies on several issues, including territorial borders and security systems.
On December 8, a meeting took place in London, attended by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and French President Emmanuel Macron. Zelensky reported that some progress was made during the negotiations regarding a possible end to the war.
At the same time, it is currently unknown whether Russian President Vladimir Putin will agree to the proposed ceasefire agreement. After talks with Trump’s delegation in Moscow last week, the Kremlin acknowledged some of the proposals as acceptable, but rejected others.
