London’s response to the escalation by Russia

The official statement from the British Foreign Office emphasizes that the actions of the Russian Federation demonstrate a blatant disregard for the safety of civilians and stability in the region. Particular concern was raised over the violation of NATO airspace that occurred last week when a Russian drone struck a high-rise building in the city of Galați in Romania. As a result of this incident, at least two people were injured, and a fire broke out on the roof of the building.

“The latest brutal bombing by Russia of civilians in Ukraine follows its violation of NATO airspace last week when it crashed into a residential building in Romania. Injuries to civilians on NATO territory are unacceptable and serve as a stark reminder of the threat that Ukrainian civilians endure daily,” the statement from the ministry said.

British diplomats emphasized that Russia shows a blatant disregard for civilian lives by continuing to launch missiles and drones en masse at Ukraine, as well as creating threats to neighboring states.

Further developments and consequences of the attacks

The President of Romania, Nicolae Ciucă, officially placed the responsibility for this incident on the Russian Federation and announced the closure of the Russian consulate general in Constanța.

In response, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the drone could have been Ukrainian and expressed readiness to conduct an “objective investigation” if Russia is provided with the wreckage of the device.

Following the incident, on the night of June 2, Russia carried out another massive shelling of Ukraine. According to the Air Forces, 73 missiles and 656 drones were launched overnight. Ukrainian forces managed to destroy 40 missiles and 602 drones. The main targets of the enemy were Kyiv, as well as Dnipro, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, and other regions.

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, as a result of these attacks, 22 people were killed, and another 130 were injured.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation claims that the strikes were aimed at defense industry enterprises, as well as fuel and transport infrastructure facilities in Ukraine, and that all designated targets were hit.
