Former U.S. President Donald Trump plans to unveil a new military aid strategy for Ukraine on July 14, which is expected to include the supply of offensive weapons. This was reported by American media, citing sources familiar with Trump’s plans.
Arming Ukraine: Focus on Strike Range
According to sources, the new plan may involve a decision to transfer long-range missiles to Ukraine. Such missiles are capable of hitting targets deep within Russian territory, including the capital of the aggressor country — Moscow. However, the final decision regarding the list of weapons to be provided has not yet been determined.
Reasons for Trump’s Shift in Position
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham noted that “Trump is very angry with Putin” and that “his statement tomorrow will be very aggressive.”
Reports indicate that a decisive factor in Trump’s change of approach towards supporting Ukraine was a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin that took place on July 3. During the conversation, the Russian leader clearly stated his intentions to continue escalating the war against Ukraine.
Previously, Donald Trump had already emphasized his readiness to provide Ukraine with, among other things, Patriot air defense systems. He noted that European countries would fund the supply of weapons. Trump also expressed his frustration with Putin’s actions and the increasing aggression of Russia against Ukraine.
