Ukrainian SIM cards were used by Russians during air attacks
This is reported by Kyiv24
Two residents of the Kyiv region were detained by law enforcement on suspicion of treason. According to the investigation, they smuggled SIM cards from one of the Ukrainian mobile operators to the Russian Federation, which were subsequently used during attacks on Ukrainian territory.
Scheme of SIM Card Smuggling and Their Use
It is known that one of the suspects previously worked in law enforcement. The men acted on the instructions of representatives of the Russian security forces: they purchased SIM cards, activated them, and sent them through European Union countries to the aggressor state. Later, these SIM cards were used by the enemy to ensure communication during strike attacks using drones, as well as in reconnaissance operations against Ukraine.
“It has been established that the men, one of whom is a former law enforcement officer, were tasked by representatives of the Russian security forces to purchase SIM cards from one of Ukraine’s mobile operators, activate them, and send them to the aggressor state through European Union countries. Subsequently, the enemy used these SIM cards during attacks on Ukrainian territory with strike UAVs, as well as in reconnaissance operations,” the statement reads.
Punishment for Treason in Wartime
Currently, both suspects are in custody. They have been charged under part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — treason committed in a state of war by a group of persons in conspiracy. This article provides for a punishment of imprisonment for up to fifteen years or life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
