Ukraine and Germany Agree on Three-Year Plan for IRIS-T System Supply to Strengthen Air Defense

Україна й Німеччина мають трирічний план постачання систем IRIS-T – президент

Ukraine and Germany have agreed to implement a three-year plan for the supply of modern IRIS-T air defense systems. This was announced by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, during a joint press conference with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, which took place on June 12 in Kyiv.

Three Years of Support and Investment in Ukraine’s Security

Zelensky emphasized that Germany’s military assistance reached 7 billion euros in 2025. He specifically highlighted the importance of the support provided by the German people and confirmed that cooperation will continue in the future. The President noted that the parties discussed a number of important issues, including the continuation of military assistance.

“I will not talk about all the details, but the plan is for the next three years. And this is very important assistance for us in any case. This does not mean that there will be war for so many years; we want the war to end, but Ukraine, our land, and the peace of our people must still be protected with quality air defense systems. I am grateful that we have an understanding for the implementation of this project for the next three years.”

The President also expressed hope for the start of local production of IRIS-T systems directly on Ukrainian territory, which would significantly enhance the country’s defense capabilities and ensure stable supplies of modern air defense means.

Cooperation in Defense Technologies

The parties reached agreements on additional investments in the development of the defense industry both in Ukraine and within joint projects with Germany. Zelensky focused on the development of long-range systems, including unmanned aerial vehicles and Ukrainian missile technologies, which are an important component of the country’s defense capabilities.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius visited Kyiv to discuss further support for Ukraine in countering Russian aggression. Germany currently ranks second among countries supplying military assistance to Ukraine, following only the United States. Along with British Defense Minister John Healey, Pistorius plays a key role in coordinating international military support amid uncertainty regarding the position of the United States.

It is worth noting that earlier in June, Pistorius emphasized that Germany aims to help Ukraine end the war, but stressed that peace must be achieved not at any cost.
