Sanctions Against Propaganda and Business
According to the head of state, the sanctions target those who assist Russia in spreading disinformation, as well as individuals conducting business on occupied Ukrainian lands, thereby contributing to the budget of the aggressor country. A separate package of sanctions has been applied to individuals who destabilize the political situation in Moldova in favor of Moscow.
“Today (September 20 – ed.) I signed decrees on the application of new sanctions by Ukraine. I have signed three packages of sanctions. In particular, against propagandists who assist Russia, against various individuals who conduct business in the occupied territory and fill Russia’s budget, supporting this system of evil, as well as against individuals who destabilize Moldova in the interests of Moscow. Ukraine is helping Moldova, and we are interested in the stability of our neighbor – in the success of Moldova,” emphasized the head of state.
As of now, the relevant decrees have not yet been published on the official website of the president.
Context of Energy Policy and Sanctions
In August, Ukraine carried out several strikes on the Druzhba oil pipeline, causing temporary disruptions in oil transportation to Hungary and Slovakia. In response to criticism from Budapest, Kyiv advised the Hungarian government to diversify its energy sources to reduce dependence on Russian supplies.
Amid the sanctions, the European Commission proposed a gradual plan for a complete abandonment of Russian oil and gas, including liquefied gas, by the end of 2027. At the same time, as reported by Reuters, EU countries are eager for Brussels not to disclose the details of this process until the transition to alternative energy sources is complete.
