The Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland, Vasyl Bodnar, commented on the situation regarding the incursion of Russian drones into Polish territory on the night of September 10. According to him, Ukraine had proposed during the signing of the security agreement with Warsaw in 2024 to shoot down drones heading towards Poland while they were still over Ukrainian territory. This, as the diplomat notes, would allow for interceptions to be carried out more cheaply and safely for both countries.

Poland Considers the Ukrainian Initiative
Vasyl Bodnar noted that the Polish side is currently seriously considering this proposal. This was also reported by Polish Deputy Prime Minister Sikorski, who discussed the matter with the Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Sibiga. According to the ambassador, the issue of joint counteraction to drones is important for both Ukraine and Poland.
“The Polish side is currently thinking about this. This was announced today by Deputy Prime Minister Sikorski, who had a conversation with our minister Andriy Sibiga. And this topic is also relevant for us and has now become relevant for Poland”
Joint Response to Threats and NATO Actions
The recent flight of Russian drones over Poland led to a temporary closure of airspace and airports, causing significant concern among the local population. Ukraine, as Bodnar reported, maintained constant communication with Polish colleagues immediately after the drones crossed the border, which allowed for a quick and adequate response from Poland.
During the nighttime attack on Ukraine, according to Polish authorities, 19 Russian drones violated Polish airspace. All of them were destroyed by NATO forces, including Polish F-16 fighters, Dutch F-35s, Italian AWACS reconnaissance aircraft, and refueling planes operated by NATO units.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that on the night of September 10, Russian troops launched a massive strike on military-industrial complex enterprises in Ukraine across five regions using precision weapons and drones. At the same time, Russia claims that “targets for strikes were not planned” on Polish territory.
