Law enforcement officials have announced suspicion against the former head of a contracting company that was responsible for repairing asphalt roads in the yards along Kharkiv Highway in Kyiv. According to the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office, the abuse of official position allowed the director to inflate the volumes of work performed in the documentation, causing damage to the city budget.

Case Circumstances and Subject of Suspicion
According to the investigation, a contract for the capital repair of the asphalt surface was concluded between the Capital Construction Department of the Darnytsia District State Administration and a private company. According to expert conclusions, the head of this company indicated a greater number of hours of machinery operation in the acts of completed work than was actually performed. This led to an inflation of work volumes and, consequently, losses for the city community, estimated at nearly 160,000 hryvnias.

Legal Assessment and Possible Consequences
The former director of the contracting company is charged with misappropriation of budget funds through abuse of official position under part 2 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Sanctions under this article provide for restriction of liberty for up to five years or imprisonment for the same period. Additionally, there may be a deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in specific activities for up to three years.
