Details of the Foreign Ministry’s Statement
Georgiy Tikhiy stressed that official Kyiv denies reports of the alleged deaths of Ukrainian citizens in Dubai. According to him, such claims are part of Iranian disinformation campaigns, similar to those used by Russia.
“We officially deny this information. The Iranian regime often engages in such disinformation operations – and is no different from the Russians.”
Background and International Reaction
Recall that earlier the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran claimed a supposed missile strike on a warehouse of Ukrainian counter-drone systems in Dubai. The Iranian organization asserted that at the time of the attack, there were 21 Ukrainian citizens in the premises who “likely perished.”
In early March, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukrainian experts would provide assistance to Middle Eastern countries regarding protection against Iranian attacks and would work directly on-site.
On February 28 of this year, the United States, together with Israel, began a military operation against Iran, resulting in the elimination of the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as well as the targeting of several military and nuclear facilities in the country. In response, the Iranian side initiated strikes on U.S. military bases and the infrastructure of Washington’s allies in the Persian Gulf region.
As a result of the escalation, Iran effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz, which is strategically important for transporting oil from the states in the region to global markets.
