Zelensky Announces New Sanctions and Increased Pressure on Russian Influence Networks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky participated in the Three Seas Initiative summit, as he announced in his evening address. This is one of the formats that unites countries in the region from the Black Sea to the Baltic and Adriatic Seas. According to the head of state, Ukraine proposes to make this format more practical for effective cooperation.

Support for Energy and Security Cooperation

Zelensky noted that following recent attacks by Russian forces on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and that of Europe, as well as considering changes in the European gas market, it is crucial to enhance joint projects in the fields of energy and critical infrastructure.

“Now, after the blackout in Spain and Portugal, and after all the Russian strikes on our energy sector, we need to help each other more in energy, communication, pipelines, and port security”

, he stated. The president also expressed confidence in Ukraine’s significant contribution to this cooperation and urged partners to intensify joint efforts in these areas.

Further Steps in Sanctions Policy and the Fight Against Russian Influence Networks

Zelensky reported that today he participated in the preparation of a new decision by the National Security and Defense Council regarding the strengthening of sanctions pressure. “It is important to continue to pressure Russian influence networks, as well as all their production and trade operations. We are trying to synchronize Ukrainian sanctions with all those in Europe so that it is a unified position, and we already have good results. In particular, regarding closed Russian productions that were working for their defense sector”.

Additionally, he announced the preparation of negotiations with the United States regarding new sanctions aimed at key points of the Russian economy.

“We are choosing such pain points in Russia that will most encourage Moscow towards diplomacy. They must take clear steps towards ending the war, and we insist on an unconditional and complete ceasefire. Russia must do this”

. Zelensky also emphasized that the country is preparing for new sanctions measures, particularly against nearly 40 Russian citizens and 60 companies, three of which are Chinese.
