The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced on July 6 the signing of another package of sanctions aimed at Russia. The new restrictions target a wide range of Russian financial schemes, including the cryptocurrency sector, which is actively used to finance the military industry of the aggressor country.

Sanctions Against Russian Companies and Individuals

The new sanctions list includes 60 legal entities and 73 individuals, all of whom are citizens of Russia. According to the head of the Ukrainian state, among the sanctioned companies is one that, in just 2025, processed several billion dollars through its accounts, primarily to meet the needs of Russia’s defense complex. Zelensky emphasized that the sanctions were imposed specifically to cut off the funding channels for the Russian military machine.

“These are special sanctions that hit many Russian financial schemes, including cryptocurrency ones. Just through one company, which is now on the sanctions list, and only since the beginning of this year, the Russians have transferred several billion dollars, mainly for the needs of their military industry,” the head of state noted.

EU’s Position on Sanctions Against Russia

At the end of June, the leaders of the European Union countries agreed to extend the existing sanctions against Russia. However, the new, 18th package of restrictions proposed by the European Commission is currently blocked by Slovakia. The main reason is Bratislava’s disagreement with the EU’s plans for a complete abandonment of Russian energy resources. Slovakia, which remains dependent on gas and oil imports from Russia, is demanding solutions from Brussels to protect the country from a potential energy crisis.
