Zelensky to Hold Talks in Paris with European and NATO Leaders on Security Guarantees

Зеленський у Парижі «звірить годинники» щодо гарантій безпеки з лідерами Європи і НАТО – Подоляк

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will travel to Paris on September 4, where he will meet with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. This was announced by the advisor to the head of the President’s Office, Mykhailo Podolyak.

Discussion on Security Guarantees for Ukraine and Europe

According to Podolyak, the meetings in Paris aim to serve as a “clock synchronization” among the leaders of key European states and NATO. The primary focus will be on security guarantees for Ukraine and the entire eastern border of Europe, which is critically important in light of Russian aggression.

“Two processes are occurring simultaneously. The first is a situational attempt to stop the war, in which the United States and personally Donald Trump play a major role. The second is the construction of a post-war architecture for Europe. Europe knows its weaknesses. Europeans lack weapons, and they cannot impose effective sanctions against India and China without the United States. However, the European Union has taken on the task of military deterrence of Russia, relying on the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ukrainian missile and drone technologies, and possibly the involvement of a European contingent,” Podolyak pointed out.

He emphasized that Ukraine is currently acting as an active moderator in shaping a new security architecture on the continent, and daily communication with Western partners is a guarantee of stability and security for both Ukraine and all of Europe.

Support from France and International Partners

On the eve of the meetings, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the convening of a gathering in Paris of participants in the so-called “coalition of the willing,” aimed at strengthening support for Ukraine. He noted that together with partners and in coordination with NATO, they plan to establish reliable security guarantees for Ukraine, which will be an important step toward achieving lasting peace.

Additionally, during the meetings, the position of the Russian Federation will be discussed, which continues to insist on aggressive warfare and rejects the possibility of a peaceful settlement. The French President reaffirmed the unity of partners in supporting Ukraine and their “steadfast will for peace.”
