Three key tasks for Ukraine
Volodymyr Zelensky noted that Ukraine currently faces three strategic tasks. The first concerns accelerating the end of the war on favorable terms for Ukraine. The President informed his colleagues about the state of diplomatic efforts, the prospects for future contacts, and emphasized the need for joint actions to strengthen diplomatic pressure on the Russian Federation. He stressed that the aggressor must be compelled to end the war against Ukraine and thanked all international partners for their support.
“First: we are doing everything to bring about a dignified end to the war. I informed partners about the state of diplomacy, possible prospects, and planned contacts. Joint efforts are needed to activate diplomacy and prevent a decrease in pressure on the aggressor. Russia must end this war of theirs. Thank you to everyone who stands with Ukraine!” – the president stated.
The second task concerns the implementation of a European financial support package for Ukraine amounting to 90 billion euros. According to Zelensky, Ukraine is actively working to expedite the arrival of these funds, which will help ensure stability amid the prolonged war.
The third direction is to strengthen air defense and energy supply for the country. The President emphasized that Ukraine is already preparing for the next heating season, while diversification of energy support from partners is ongoing. Zelensky also reported that all needs for protection and recovery have already been communicated to international allies.
Features of the European Political Community summit in Yerevan
The President of Ukraine arrived in Yerevan on May 3 to participate in the European Political Community summit, which will take place on May 4. 48 heads of state and government, including Zelensky, have been invited to participate. A feature of this year’s summit is the inclusion of a country that is geographically not part of Europe – the presence of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected.
According to a representative of the European Union, the summit in Yerevan has symbolic significance as it is the first to be held in the South Caucasus. This underscores Armenia’s geopolitical course and creates conditions for discussing a peace agreement with Azerbaijan. In addition to supporting Ukraine, significant attention will be given to the situation in the Middle East, considering it in the broader context of European security.
On the summit’s agenda is countering external information manipulation, especially during electoral processes, as well as enhancing the resilience of critical infrastructure to hybrid threats. Volodymyr Zelensky and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer are expected to be involved in these discussions.
Another important block will be the discussion of resilience to global crises, including wars, pandemics, and migration challenges. Leaders will also consider issues related to reducing energy dependence on imports, taking into account the situation in the Middle East.
It should be noted that the previous summit of the European Political Community took place in October 2025 in Copenhagen.
