Zelensky stated that Ukraine does not consider giving up its territories

закінчення війни має бути чесним

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that the Ukrainian authorities have no intention of conceding territories, despite the search for compromises by the United States. During the discussion on this issue, he stressed that Ukraine has neither a legal nor a moral right to give up its lands.

“By law, we have no right, according to the Constitution, international law, and moral law. Of course, Russia insists that we give up territories. We absolutely do not want to give anything away; that is what we are fighting for. Americans are currently looking for compromises,” he said in response to a question about whether Kyiv is considering the issue of giving up territories.

Discussion of international plans and the search for compromise

According to the head of state, the plan to end the war, which previously had 28 points, has been reduced to 20 by excluding positions that do not align with Ukraine’s interests. Zelensky explained that the American side is inclined to seek compromises; however, the issue of territories remains one of the most complex – so far, no agreement has been reached on this matter.

The president also noted that during discussions of the plan with European partners, there has been gradual progress towards a possible end to the war, although key disagreements remain.

Negotiations between the US, Russia, and Ukraine

Last week, a meeting took place in Moscow between American representatives Steve Vitkoff, Jared Kushner, and Russian President Vladimir Putin. They discussed the terms of a potential peace agreement regarding the Russian-Ukrainian war. Later, Putin confirmed that during the negotiations, the Russian side did not accept some points of the American conflict resolution plan.

After this meeting, the Ukrainian delegation in the US held further consultations with representatives of Donald Trump’s administration. The negotiations lasted several days.

On December 8, US President Donald Trump stated that Volodymyr Zelensky had not yet been briefed on American peace initiatives. He also added that “his people are thrilled,” while the Russian Federation is generally satisfied with the plan, although “Russia would prefer to have all of Ukraine.”

Following these statements, Zelensky emphasized that the parties involved in the negotiations mediated by the US still have significant disagreements regarding territorial issues.
