About 200,000 Ukrainian Families Have Received Compensation for Destroyed Housing

Кулеба розповів, скільком сім’ям компенсували вартість зруйнованого житла, а скільки чекають

In Ukraine, over 200,000 families have already received compensation for housing destroyed as a result of military actions, costing the state more than one and a half billion dollars. This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction Oleksii Kuleba.

Main Details of the Compensation Program

According to the official, the number of applications still awaiting review remains relatively small. “People are still applying, but I can’t say it’s hundreds of thousands. Definitely not. It’s up to ten thousand requests,” Kuleba noted.

Particularly many requests come from property owners whose assets remain in temporarily occupied territories. The applications from military personnel are prioritized, as they, according to Kuleba, have not received any state assistance for a long time. The verification procedure for this category is maximally simplified: there is no need to provide archival documents, as this is practically impossible.

“They have property left in temporarily occupied territories. They are fighting for Ukraine, and unfortunately, the state has not helped them until this day. We created the program at the request of the president: two million hryvnias is the certificate, compensation for the property that was destroyed,” Kuleba explained.

Needs and Prospects for Recovery

In the state compensation program for homeowners in temporarily occupied territories, there are currently about 25,000 applications. According to Kuleba, the available funds will only be enough to pay compensation to half of them. The Ukrainian authorities are now seeking additional financial resources, actively cooperating with international partners to cover the deficit.

As of today, approximately 400,000 properties of varying degrees of damage are registered in the fund for destroyed housing, most of which are located in frontline regions.

According to a joint assessment by the Government of Ukraine, the World Bank, the European Commission, and the UN, over 80 billion dollars is needed for the complete restoration of the country’s housing stock.
