Law enforcement officials in the capital have arrested a group of three men involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit currency. According to the capital’s prosecutor’s office, they used fake dollars to purchase mobile phones through the online platform OLX, specifically Apple models.

How the Counterfeiters Operated
According to the established circumstances, the criminals found advertisements for the sale of Apple phones on the website and offered sellers to be paid in dollars. They showed particular interest in the latest iPhone models, which are popular among buyers.
The counterfeit currency was of such high quality that sellers did not even suspect its fakeness. As a result, the scammers managed to acquire 10 mobile phones worth about 16 thousand US dollars, defrauding four sellers in the process.
Consequences and Possible Punishments
“Currently, all counterfeiters face up to ten years of imprisonment with asset confiscation.”
Law enforcement officials are actively working on the investigation of this case and plan to hold the arrested individuals accountable for the production and distribution of counterfeit currency, which is punishable under Ukrainian law.
