Ukraine’s Position on War and Security
President Zelensky thanked the Canadian government and Mark Carney personally for their support in response. He emphasized the urgency of increasing pressure on Russia and the need for continued strong support for Ukraine from the international community. Zelensky pointed out the recent air attack by the Russian Federation, calling it evidence of the Kremlin’s unwillingness to end the war.
The President also stated that he plans to discuss with the Canadian side the possibilities of strengthening Ukraine’s air defense. According to him, there have been positive changes in the diplomatic sphere in recent weeks; however, this is not enough to reduce the need for air defense resources. Zelensky stressed that such illusions do not work in relations with Russia.
Additionally, Zelensky expressed hope for a productive meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, which is set to take place soon. It is known that during this meeting, the parties plan to discuss a wide range of issues, including the possibilities of reaching a peace agreement in the Russo-Ukrainian war. This meeting was preceded by a phone call between Zelensky and representatives of the U.S. President’s team, Stephen Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
