Russia is preparing for an important diplomatic event — the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Moscow, scheduled for the Victory Day celebrations on May 9. This was announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi at the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro on April 28.

Preparation for the Visit and Other International Events
Lavrov also noted that Russia is actively working on organizing participation in the Chinese celebrations on September 3, which commemorate the defeat of Japanese militarism and the end of World War II. This reflects the desire to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation between the countries.
“Xi Jinping has accepted the invitation to the event in Moscow on May 9, 2025,”
The Russian Ambassador to China, Igor Morgulov, confirmed that the Chinese leader accepted the invitation to participate in this significant event. According to Russian media reports, the Russian government has also sent official invitations to leaders of other countries, including India, Brazil, as well as European Union countries — Slovakia and Serbia.
Geopolitical Context and U.S. Reaction
In February, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he would not travel to Moscow on May 9. This came after reports of his possible participation in the Victory Parade in the Russian capital. Such a reaction underscores the tension in international relations and the measured U.S. policy regarding events in Russia.
