Gratitude for support and strengthening sanctions
During the conversation, Yermak expressed gratitude to the American side for its consistent assistance in strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities and increasing sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation. He specifically noted the involvement of First Lady Melania Trump in the process of repatriating deported Ukrainian children.
“We are monitoring the Asian tour of the U.S. President and highly appreciate his outstanding leadership qualities as a peacemaker. We hope this will contribute to significant progress in changing China’s position on the aggressor state,” Yermak stated.
Possible impact of Trump’s tour on China’s position
At this time, the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine has not provided official comments regarding the meeting. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump recently mentioned the possibility of discussing with Chinese leader Xi Jinping the issue of reducing Chinese purchases of Russian oil. This issue became relevant after the U.S. imposed sanctions on two of the largest oil companies. Furthermore, Trump expressed hope for achieving a “comprehensive agreement” between the countries regarding energy cooperation.
