In the Shevchenkivskyi district of the capital, on Olesya Hontchar Street, the demolition of the ancient estate belonging to Mykola Bilyashivsky — the first director of the Museum of History of Ukraine — has begun. The building is a local heritage site and has an official protection order No. 3285-Kv.

Details of the Demolition Situation

According to heritage conservationist Dmytro Perov, municipal services have started dismantling the wing built in the late 19th to early 20th century. Local residents reported a wall collapse in the historical wing at the address: Olesya Hontchar Street, 43b. It is known that since 2002 this structure has been privately owned, and back in 2005, there were plans to construct a residential building with an underground parking lot on its site.

“The municipal workers are dismantling the wing of the Bilyashivsky estate, dating from the late 19th to early 20th centuries,” wrote Dmytro Perov.

Protected Status and Significance for the City

The Bilyashivsky estate is officially listed in the register of architectural monuments of local significance. It has a protection order intended to safeguard the object from demolition and preserve its cultural value. Despite this, the building remains in a state of disrepair, and its future raises concerns among the public and heritage conservation specialists.
