The Zhytniy Market, located in the heart of Kyiv’s Podil, has officially received the status of a cultural heritage site and is now under state protection.
The Zhytniy Market Will Remain in Its Place
From now on, the historic building of the market is protected from demolition. This decision allows for the preservation of the unique architectural appearance of the site, which is part of the city’s history and identity of Podil. The decision to include the Zhytniy Market in the list of cultural heritage sites was made to prevent potential developments or changes that could threaten its authenticity.
“The historic building of the Zhytniy Market has been officially included in the list of cultural heritage sites. It is now under state protection and safeguarded from demolition,” the statement reads.
Decisions Regarding Sale – Exclusively by the City Council
The Kyiv City State Administration emphasized that granting the market protective status guarantees its preservation in its original form. Any issues related to the sale of the site will henceforth be considered only by the deputies of the Kyiv City Council. This ensures transparency and control over the future of the historic structure, which is an important element of Kyiv’s cultural heritage.
