US Develops New Sanctions Against Gazprom and Russian Banks

США розробили санкції проти «Газпрому» та банків РФ – Reuters

The US government is preparing a new package of economic sanctions aimed at the Russian energy and banking sectors, reports Reuters, citing sources. According to the information, the new measures may affect companies such as Gazprom, as well as enterprises involved in the extraction of natural resources. These sanctions are intended to create additional pressure on the Russian authorities to influence their policy regarding the war in Ukraine, as well as to push them to support the US president’s efforts to seek peace.

Reports indicate that the approval of these measures is still under consideration.

“It’s entirely his decision,” – stated one US official, referring to President Donald Trump.

US National Security Council spokesman James Hewitt noted that Trump has consistently advocated for a complete and comprehensive ceasefire. «We do not comment on the details of ongoing negotiations,» he added. The US Department of the Treasury, which is responsible for implementing sanctions, has not yet provided comments on the new measures.

Possible Measures and Political Reactions

According to reports from Bloomberg, US officials have already prepared several options to increase economic pressure on Russia due to Vladimir Putin’s delays in ending the war against Ukraine. Additionally, over 70 senators have supported a bill that proposes the implementation of sanctions, including a 500% tariff on imports from countries that purchase oil, gas, or uranium from Russia.

This bill aims to intensify economic pressure on Russia and could significantly impact international trade relations and the energy sector.
