«Нехай ніхто нікому не читає лекцій» – Туск про Європу, США і трансатлантичну оборону

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized the need for enhanced mobilization of European societies to support Ukraine in its war against Russian aggression. He made this statement during the opening of the Warsaw Security Forum, highlighting that the responsibility to assist Kyiv lies with Europe.

European and Transatlantic Responsibility

Tusk drew parallels between the events in Ukraine and the tragic chapters of Poland’s history. He recalled images of the devastated Mariupol, which reminded him of Polish cities destroyed during World War II.

“When we saw the shocking footage from Bucha and heard the stories of raped women, witnesses to the murder of children during the clashes, I was reminded of my grandmother’s words about her experiences in Gdańsk during World War II. When we saw the destruction of Mariupol – Polish cities stood before my eyes. I’m not that old, but when I was in school in my hometown of Gdańsk, there were still ruins halfway through,”

noted the head of the Polish government.

He criticized views that the war in Ukraine is merely an internal problem or a conflict that cannot be won. According to Tusk, the events in Ukraine will determine the future of Western civilization as a whole, and a loss in this war will have global consequences for future generations in Poland, Europe, the USA, and the world.

The Need for Unity in the Transatlantic Community

Donald Tusk stressed that there is no reason to talk about capitulation and called on European and American leaders to demonstrate faith in Ukraine’s victory. He stated that the assertion that Kyiv can win has a significant impact on societies and policymakers on both sides of the Atlantic.

At the same time, he pointed out the necessity of strengthening the unity of the transatlantic community, as he believes there are sometimes misunderstandings in relations between Europe and the USA. The Polish Prime Minister urged not to seek ways to convince American partners to engage more but to first demonstrate their own capacity for mobilization.

Tusk emphasized that the USA has the right to expect a more active stance from Europe in supporting Ukraine. At the same time, Europe, according to him, can expect that Washington will regard the transatlantic community as a key factor for the security and survival of the Western world.

In conclusion, Donald Tusk called for mutual respect and learning between Europe and the USA, stressing: “Let no one lecture anyone, but let everyone learn from each other’s responsibilities.”
