Tragic Traffic Accident in Kyiv: Child Died Instantly

In Kyiv’s Obolon district, police detained a 23-year-old driver of a Tesla electric car who fatally struck a 13-year-old girl at an unregulated crosswalk. The tragedy occurred last Friday, October 28, around 9:15 PM, at the exit from the bridge towards Obolonsky Avenue.
Circumstances of the Accident and Driver’s Actions
According to law enforcement officials, the vehicle was traveling from Bohatyrska Street when the driver hit the child who was crossing the road at the “zebra” crossing. The girl died from her injuries at the scene.
“The 23-year-old driver of the electric car, while exiting the bridge from Bohatyrska Street towards Obolonsky Avenue, struck a minor girl who was crossing the road at an unregulated crosswalk. The victim died at the scene from her injuries,” the statement said.
After the arrest, the driver showed signs of alcohol intoxication; however, he refused to take a blood alcohol test using a “Dräger” device. Experts are determining the driver’s condition at the time of the accident.
Legal Qualification and Preventive Measure
The man has been charged under part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for liability for violating traffic safety rules by persons in a state of intoxication. The court has chosen a preventive measure of detention for the suspect.
“At the request of the investigators, the court has chosen a preventive measure of detention for the suspect. He faces up to ten years in prison for his actions,” the police reported.
Investigators continue to look into this high-profile case, and the detained individual faces up to ten years in prison.
