European Leaders Remain Engaged in Peace Negotiations in Ukraine

«щойно тиск ослаб, росіяни почали намагатися зістрибнути з дипломатії»

European leaders continue to actively participate in the process of peacefully resolving the war between Ukraine and Russia, even if they cannot physically attend the meeting of the presidents of Ukraine and the United States on December 28 in Florida. This was stated by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, during a conversation with journalists.

Constant Communication with European Partners

Zelensky emphasized that European partners remain in constant communication and are involved in discussions regarding the peaceful resolution. He noted that, despite the inability to gather offline in a short time, leaders plan to join the negotiations online. The head of state stressed the importance of the European position on issues related to the resolution of the war and mentioned that a format for the participation of European partners in the process will be found in the near future, so that not only Ukraine and the United States but also Europe are represented in the negotiations.

“While we are speaking with you, European leaders are writing to me and calling me. I will be in constant contact with them. We would like Europeans to be (participants in the negotiations with President Donald Trump – ed.)… I am not sure that right now, within one day, we can all gather offline, but I think at the very least we will connect online, and our partners will be in contact. We are in constant contact with them, by the way. And certainly, when we talk about this entire path – there are many documents, many things depend on the positions of Europe. We must find some format soon, where not only Ukraine and America will be present, but Europe will also be represented” – noted the head of the Ukrainian state.

20-Point Plan and Russia’s Position

President Zelensky confirmed that on December 28, a meeting will take place in the United States with the American leader, during which a wide range of issues related to a possible peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia is planned to be discussed. Earlier this week, Zelensky outlined a 20-point plan developed during consultations between Kyiv and Washington, which he called “the basic document for ending the war.” According to this plan, Ukraine is to receive reliable security guarantees, and the number of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in peacetime will amount to 800,000 personnel.

At the same time, official representatives of the Russian Federation refrained from commenting on this document. However, according to information released by one of the international news agencies citing sources close to the Kremlin, the authorities of the Russian Federation intend to demand key changes to the peace plan proposed by Ukraine and the United States.
