Unique Stained Glass of Mariupol: Photo Project and Installation
The main part of the exhibition will be a photo project by Mariupol photographer and journalist Ivan Stanislavskyi. He documented the unique stained glass of his hometown before their destruction, preserving the memory of this important part of Mariupol’s cultural heritage. Among the exhibits, there will also be an installation by artist Waldemart Klyuzkan, created in support of Ukrainian prisoners of war.
Organizers and Opening Program
The exhibition is organized by the team “Mariupol – a Tourist City” – a community of Mariupol residents who, while in exile, actively preserve the cultural heritage and identity of their region. During the opening, which will take place on November 19, there will be presentations by museum staff, researchers of monumental heritage, artists, as well as a guided tour of the exhibition. Visitors will learn about the history of the project, the symbolism of Mariupol’s stained glass, and how the fragility of glass becomes a language of memory and resistance.
“This exhibition is part of a larger story about preserving our monumental heritage. Mariupol’s art today becomes not only a memory of what has been destroyed but also a language of resistance against Russian propaganda,” the organizers note.
The event aims not only to preserve the memory of Mariupol’s artistic past but also to support the contemporary context of the struggle for identity and freedom.
