Finland Supports Sanction Pressure on Russia
“I certainly hope that President Trump will continue to impose these sanctions,” Valtonen told Reuters.
According to the minister, the strengthening of sanctions has been one of the factors that compelled Russia to show readiness for negotiations. Valtonen emphasized that increasing arms supplies to Ukraine also intensifies pressure on the Russian Federation, forcing it to seek ways for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.
Prospects for New Sanctions and Further Negotiations
Earlier, Donald Trump announced a deadline for Russia – August 8. By this time, Moscow must agree to peace in Ukraine, or else secondary tariffs will be imposed on buyers of Russian oil. The introduction of these restrictions could significantly reduce the revenue to the Russian budget, which is used to finance military operations.
At the same time, there is a possibility that a personal meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump will take place soon. It may occur after the Russian leader’s negotiations with U.S. Special Envoy Steve Vitkoff, which are scheduled for Wednesday, August 6, in Moscow. Such events could influence the final decision regarding the imposition or postponement of new sanctions against Russia.
