Russian strikes on Azerbaijani facilities in Ukraine
During the conversation, the parties also raised the issue of attacks on other Azerbaijani facilities located in Ukraine, as well as the strike on a gas compressor station involved in transporting Azerbaijani gas to Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelensky informed his Azerbaijani counterpart about the consequences of Russian strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
“Ukraine considers this a deliberate attempt by Russia to block energy routes that guarantee us and other European countries energy independence.”
Situation with energy infrastructure
According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy, on the night of August 6, Russian troops struck a compressor station in Odesa, which is part of the route for transporting Azerbaijani gas to Ukraine and Europe. This incident occurred shortly after Ukraine received gas from Azerbaijan for the first time through the Trans-Balkan corridor — a strategic gas pipeline connecting Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey at the end of July.
Additionally, on the night of August 8, Russian drones attacked the SOCAR oil depot in Odesa. Such actions by the Russian Federation pose a threat to the energy security not only of Ukraine but also of other European states.
Separately, Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated Ilham Aliyev on the achievements in negotiations between Baku and Yerevan, which, according to him, became possible with the mediation of U.S. President Donald Trump.
