Flu and ARVI Cases Rising in Kyiv: Schoolchildren Most Affected

The capital is experiencing an increase in flu and acute respiratory viral infections, primarily among school-aged children.

During the past week, Kyiv registered 9,191 cases of flu and ARVI, which also included cases of COVID-19. Compared to the previous week, when 8,922 cases were recorded, the incidence rate has risen by 3%.

Increase in Cases Among Children

The majority of the cases are among children, accounting for 61.4% of all registered cases, which is an increase from last week (57.1%). Over the last week, the number of sick children rose by 10.3%: 5,645 cases compared to 5,098 the week before. The most significant increase is observed among schoolchildren, with a rise of 15.9%, reaching 3,267 cases.

In contrast to children, the incidence among adults has decreased: 3,546 cases compared to 3,824 the previous week, which is a 7.3% reduction.

Hospitalizations and COVID-19 Situation

Over the week, 128 individuals were hospitalized, including 93 children (compared to 133 the previous week, of which 98 were children). From November 17 to 23, Kyiv recorded a 21.2% decrease in coronavirus cases: 41 cases compared to 52 the previous week. Among the new cases, there was only one child. During this time, 19 adults were hospitalized with a diagnosis of COVID-19, four of whom were in intensive care.

“Since the beginning of the epidemic season, there have been 12 fatalities, one of which occurred in the last week,” reported the Kyiv City Center for Public Health.
