German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius recently stated in an interview that the country’s armed forces only have six out of twelve Patriot air defense systems at their disposal.

Current Situation with Patriot in Germany

According to Pistorius, three Patriot systems have already been transferred to Ukraine, and two are temporarily leased to Poland. He clarified that “at least one has always been unavailable due to maintenance or training.” The minister emphasized that this number is insufficient for the needs of the Bundeswehr, and therefore, additional systems for transfer to Ukraine are currently unavailable.

“We certainly cannot provide more,” the minister said, referring to the supply of Patriot systems to Ukraine.

Discussion on International Support for Ukraine

Pistorius also announced plans to meet with U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in Washington to discuss the possibility of acquiring two Patriot systems from the United States specifically for Ukraine’s needs.

In turn, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed readiness to provide Ukraine with Patriot systems if NATO ally countries agree to fund this supply. Trump emphasized that “the number (of Patriot systems – ed.) has not yet been agreed upon, but they will receive some of them because they need protection.”

It was previously reported that Ukraine has received at least seven Patriot systems from partners. In particular, three were supplied by the U.S. and Germany, and one by a consortium of European countries.
