The head of the Darnytsia District Police of Kyiv, Yurii Rybianskyi, who disappeared from his workplace along with millions of hryvnias, was found and arrested in a forest in Rivne Oblast.

The Officer Stole Evidence and Tried to Hide

The investigation revealed that the police officer had kept funds seized during the pre-trial investigation in his office. The money, in various currencies, which were material evidence, was supposed to be transferred to a bank for safekeeping, but the police chief did not carry out this procedure. On November 3, he failed to show up for work, and all the money disappeared from his office.

Search and Arrest in the Forest of Rivne Oblast

By November 6, employees of the State Bureau of Investigations and the police had located Yurii Rybianskyi. It turned out that he had set up a temporary camp in the forest, where he planned to hide for an extended period. For this, he purchased a minibus, a tent, a charging station, a supply of food, and necessary equipment.

During searches of the vehicle and the hideout, over 12.6 million hryvnias in various foreign currencies were seized. The officer has been charged and detained. Investigators are conducting urgent actions to determine where the rest of the money has gone.

“According to the investigation, the police officer kept material evidence – money in various currencies – in his office. The funds had previously been seized by his subordinates during the pre-trial investigation and were supposed to be transferred for safekeeping to a banking institution.”

Preliminary data suggests that the total amount of stolen funds may exceed 16 million hryvnias. The investigation is ongoing.
