Head of the Young Theatre Resigns Amid Sexual Harassment Allegations

The artistic director and head of the Kyiv Academic Young Theatre, Andriy Bilous, has been dismissed from his position due to allegations of sexual harassment against him. The decision for his resignation was made by mutual agreement, as confirmed by the signing of the relevant order by the Department of Culture of the capital.

The press service of the Kyiv City State Administration stated that the Department of Culture consistently adheres to a principled stance against any manifestations of harassment, discrimination, and offensive actions in cultural institutions that are municipally owned. This statement emphasizes the importance of creating a safe and equitable environment for both employees and visitors.

Comment from Andriy Bilous

“I do not acknowledge any wrongdoing. No competent institution has established my guilt. However, considering the public resonance, I find it appropriate to remove the factor that is being used to destabilize the theatre. I hope that this step will contribute to the theatre’s return to normal operations.”

In a comment to the TSN television channel, Andriy Bilous stated that he made the decision to resign voluntarily. He asserted that he does not consider himself guilty of any offenses and emphasized that no competent institution has confirmed his guilt. According to him, the decision made aims to alleviate the public tension and contribute to the stabilization of the theatre’s work.
