“Ukraine has demonstrated full readiness for a ceasefire and peace negotiations without preconditions,” he stated on Wednesday in the German parliament (quote from the DPA agency). “Now we expect Mr. Putin to sit at the negotiating table. Anyone who wants peace in Europe must negotiate now, and the ball is in Mr. Putin’s court.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will travel to Turkey on May 15, where he will hold talks with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara. The head of the Ukrainian state expressed his willingness to come to Istanbul if Russian President Vladimir Putin also decides to participate in the meeting.

Putin himself, in a nighttime statement to the press on May 11, proposed direct negotiations with Ukraine. However, the Kremlin has not yet determined who from Moscow will go to Turkey to participate in the talks.
