A unique example of wooden architecture was destroyed in the suburbs of Kyiv

At 43 Junkerova Street in Pushcha-Vodytsia, on the outskirts of the capital, an ancient wooden house, considered an architectural monument of Kyiv, was dismantled. This estate held significant historical value and was an example of dacha construction from the early 20th century.
History of the Estate and Its Owners
According to Kyiv local historian Anton Korob, from 1900 to 1916, this dacha was under long-term lease by Valentina Till. She was a well-known resident of Kyiv, who owned a four-story apartment building at 13 Velyka Zhytomyrska Street. The wooden house was likely built between 1900 and 1903. In its original layout, it had seven spacious rooms and one small room.
After the end of World War II, the estate was used as a residential building until the late 1970s. From the early 1980s until 1998, the building served as a sanatorium for a pioneer camp of the “Mayak” factory.

Issues with Preserving the Monument
In 2000, the house was included in the list of newly discovered architectural monuments of the Obolon district. However, over 25 years, the building never acquired official status as a local monument, which made proper protection and restoration impossible.

“Precious time was wasted, and by 2010 the house was already roofless. Over ten years, the wooden ruin gradually became damp and rotten,” wrote Anton Korob.
Eventually, the building fell into critical condition: without a roof, it gradually deteriorated under the influence of weather conditions. Ultimately, in June 2025, the remains of the century-old dacha were completely dismantled.

The destruction of this wooden dacha has become yet another example of the loss of Kyiv’s historical heritage due to the lack of appropriate protective status and proper attention to the preservation of architectural monuments.
