Investigation into the Provision of Backup Power for Educational Institutions in Kyiv
This is reported by Kyiv24
In Kyiv, the official information about the equipping of schools and kindergartens with generators significantly differs from the actual situation. Journalists have found that the number of educational institutions with backup power sources in case of electricity outages is lower than what city officials claim.
Unverified Statistics and Official Data
According to official reports from the Kyiv City State Administration, 683 educational institutions in the capital currently have generators. At the same time, there are 417 schools with shelters and 529 municipal kindergartens operating in Kyiv, totaling 946 institutions. This means that not all educational institutions in the city are equipped with backup power sources, and this number cannot be considered “almost every school or kindergarten,” as some officials declare.
“There are 417 schools with shelters in Kyiv that continue to operate fully. Additionally, 529 municipal kindergartens are functioning normally. 529 + 417. That makes 946. So, 683 out of 946 does not quite resemble ‘almost everyone,'” the media representatives state.
Problems with Food Provision
Despite the presence of generators in some educational institutions, there are difficulties in preparing food for children. In comments, parents and staff from schools and kindergartens note that some of the purchased generators cannot support the operation of electric stoves necessary for cooking hot meals. As a result, in some schools and kindergartens, parents are asked to bring food from home, and cooks are forced to stay at work overnight to ensure that children receive meals.
