Cost of Traditional Dishes and Its Dynamics
This year, the average Ukrainian family will spend about 1,374 hryvnias to prepare 12 dishes for the Christmas celebration. The traditional menu includes kutya, uzvar, fried fish, vinaigrette, dumplings with potatoes, cabbage, and cherries, stewed cabbage, lean borscht with beans, fried potatoes, as well as fresh and pickled vegetables.
“The Christmas menu with dishes that are traditional for such a table among the average family – kutya and uzvar, fried fish, vinaigrette, dumplings (with potatoes, cabbage, cherries), stewed cabbage, lean borscht with beans, fried potatoes, fresh and pickled vegetables – will cost nearly 1,374 hryvnias,” the message states.
What Influenced the Price of the Christmas Table
According to experts, the cost of the festive table has practically not changed compared to last year, when it was 1,365 hryvnias. This stability is explained by the record harvest of vegetables in the borscht set: potatoes, carrots, cabbage, beets, and onions, the prices of which have decreased by more than half over the year.
At the same time, some products have significantly increased in price. The highest price increases were seen in oil (+26.7%), frozen cherries (+25.7%), barrel cucumbers (+25.2%), white dry beans (+18.3%), flour (+17.5%), live carp (+12.6%), and fresh tomatoes (+12.5%).
Thus, despite a slight overall increase in costs, Ukrainian families will be able to maintain the traditions of the festive table, taking into account the price changes for individual products.
