Sharp Reaction from Hungary and Escalation of Diplomatic Conflicts
Earlier, the head of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Péter Szijjártó, announced the expulsion of two Ukrainian diplomats from Budapest, accusing them of “espionage.” At the same time, he noted that the Hungarian authorities had not yet received official information from Ukraine regarding the detention of two individuals in Transcarpathia, who are suspected of working for Hungarian intelligence.
This was a response to a statement from the Security Service of Ukraine, which for the first time in the country’s history uncovered a network of military intelligence agents from Russia operating to the detriment of Ukraine and accused the Hungarian side of espionage activities. The Security Service of Ukraine reported that it had uncovered a network engaged in gathering intelligence data in the interests of Russia.
The head of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted to this information, stating that Budapest had not yet received official notifications from the Ukrainian side about the detention of two Hungarian citizens suspected of working for Russian intelligence, and assured that the Hungarian authorities are committed to maintaining diplomatic ethics in this conflict.
